Today in history: Vasudeo Hari Chapekar

Today in history: Today is the Death Anniversary of Vasudeo Hari Chapekar, the youngest of the three Chapekar Brothers. On 22 June 1897, the Chapekar Brothers open fired and killed the British Officers Rand and Ayerst near Ganeshkhind (for atrocities committed on the people of Pune under the guise of plague eradication). They were arrested and sentenced to death for the murders. Vasudeo Hari Chapekar and Mahadeo Vinayak Ranade, killed the Dravid brothers (who had supplied information to the Police about the Chapekar brothers) near Khunya Murlidhar Mandir. Both were sentenced to death for the murders and Vasudeo Hari Chapekar was executed on this day in 1899. Mahadeo Vinayak Ranade was executed on 10th May 1899.
